    Data Handling

Archiving digital research data connected to published manuscripts

The RTG2599 is not only named similarly but it also supports the long-term storage of research data according to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principle (https://www.publisso.de/forschungsdatenmanagement/fair-prinzipien/). Therefore, after a paper that acknowledges the support of the RTG2599 has been published, the corresponding authors must electronically deposit all original and processed data generated during the corresponding research project on an FAU-maintained server, subject to regular backups while also ensuring data safety and limiting access. We will work closely with the “Regionales Rechenzentrum Erlangen” (RRZE) to develop an RTG server for storage and back-up of all “raw” data used in publications.

    Electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)

With the first Dr. rer. nat. cohort, we will establish an electronic laboratory notebook system. We have already started to evaluate commercially available ELNs based on an article published by Publisso, the online platform of the Central Medical Library (https://www.publisso.de/forschungsdatenmanagement/fd-dokumentieren/eln-wegweiser/). In support with the FAU and the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen we have established Labfolder as the universal ELN solution within the RTG2599, enabling inter-platform communications and collaborations through documentation sharing while ensuring data security. Each ELN, unless explicitly managed differently, is accessible by the respective doctoral candidate and her or his direct RTG supervisor.
